District Operations

 

  • Volunteered to advise 2014 Cradle of Liberty Lafayette District Community Friends of Scouting Campaign. Successfully mentored entry-level District Executive to complete campaign analysis, prospect and recruit key volunteers and compile a suitable number of prospects to conduct the only true "I-See-Five Campaign" in the council. Celebrated successful campaign with a cultivation event at community zoo in June. The campaign generated $7,667 in new revenue to the council, which represented a 6-fold increase compared to previous 3-year Community Campaign Average.

  • Reconstituted the Cradle of Liberty's Constellation District Committee in 2012 for the first time in 10 years to achieve District Friends of Scouting goal by April 1. Successfully coached commissioner staff through 100% on-time recharting process without dropping a unit, even in the place of newly imposed mandatory training requirements.

  • Immediately upon joining council staff in October 2011, jumped into the staff advisor role in advance of the 2012 Cradle of Liberty Council Friends of Scouting Campaign. Working with District Directors, structured campaign, developed theme, personally designed collateral materials and drove progress throughout the year. Ultimately, 8 of 11 Districts exceeded their goals and all three Field Service Areas combined to lift the council to $482,601, an increase of $83,026 (20%) from 2011.

Outdoor Programs

 

  • Revived Old North State Council Cherokee Scout Reservation’s six-week Boy Scout resident camp program by hiring and leading a staff of more than 70 people as Camp Director - increasing the total number of campers from 1,393 in 2010 to 1,703 in 2011.

  • Introduced advancement system (adapted from Yawgoog segment experience) to promote a new tradition of repeat attendance and year-round awareness.

  • Terminated COPE/Climbing Director for breach of camp code of conduct during week 3 in 2011 and successfully worked with Program Director and High Adventure Committee to ensure both programs could continue without interruption for the remainder of the summer in compliance with National Camp Standards.

  • Restarted Old North State Council's first successful NYLT Course in 5 years by recruiting 6 key volunteers. Course was successfully completed by 64 participants during Cherokee's staff week in advance of the summer season. 

Trail's End Popcorn Sale

 

  • Upon accepting Council Staff Advisor  assignment two weeks prior to the start of the 2014 sale, took immediate steps to improve flow of information by establishing weekly Kernel Call.

  • Instituted inter-unit inventory swap system and reinforced district ownership of the campaign by empowering District Executives and Quality Unit Executives to approve unit orders and pilot district-specific sales strategies.

  • Collaboratively dealt with unexpected surplus inventory by engaging staff buy-in of voluntary second sale plan and novel local military donation fulfillment.

  • Utilized Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) method and engaged focus group of 6 staff members to remove impediments in advance of 2015 campaign. The resulting replenishment model was well received and has been maintained by subsequent campaign leadership since.
